Filling a peptide pen cartridge involves sanitizing, drawing reconstituted peptide from a vial with a syringe, injecting it into the cartridge, and ensuring no air bubbles remain before assembly. Key supplies include the pen, empty cartridge, 3ml syringe (reconstitution needle), venting needle, alcohol swabs, and peptide vial.
Step-by-Step Filling Guide
- Preparation: Clean your work surface and wash hands. Disassemble the pen by removing the top and unscrewing the cartridge chamber.
- Clean Vial: Clean the rubber stopper of your reconstituted peptide vial with an alcohol swab.
- Draw Peptide: Attach a needle to the syringe, draw 3mL of air (if filling a 3mL cartridge) to avoid creating a vacuum, and inject it into the vial. Withdraw the required volume of peptide.
- Fill Cartridge: Insert the needle into the empty cartridge. Place a small venting needle or another syringe needle through the rubber stopper of the cartridge to allow air to escape while filling, preventing pressure buildup.
- Fill Slowly: Slowly push the plunger to fill the cartridge.
- Remove Air Bubbles: Once filled, check for air bubbles. Tap the cartridge so bubbles rise to the top.
- Assemble and Prime: Insert the rubber stopper end of the cartridge into the pen first, then screw the chamber back onto the pen. Attach a new pen needle to the pen and twist clockwise until tight.
- Prime the Pen: Dial the pen to 1-2 units and press the button to ensure the medication flows, removing any remaining air, as described in the V2 Refillable Pen Instruction video.
Important Tips
- If the plunger rod is sticking out of the pen body, push it in until it is flush before inserting the new cartridge, say YouTube tutorials.
- Label your cartridge to avoid medication confusion.
- Ensure the peptide is stored at the correct temperature (often 2-8°C, but check your specific peptide).
